Google Webmaster Blog’s Sean Harding recently talked about the changes in website verification process of webmaster tools. Those are more advanced meta tags verification process and HTML verification files. Earlier the user had to add a meta tag on the page to verify the process, this tag was totally depended upon the email of user account. So if user has made any change in the email account then your meta tag would also change. But now it has been more advanced and would not change if you change your emaild.
Google webmaster tools have also redeveloped the HTML file where this HTML file will eliminate the checks for non-existing urls. Earlier this HTML file was not able to check the 404 non-existent urls even after using a properly configured web server used ti return 404 for non-existing URLs. Due to this lots of people faced problems. But with this revised process you just have to download the HTML file and upload it on website server without any changes then the Google webmaster team will check the content of the file if they are error free.
The Google webmaster team has made this cleared that users who have already verified their websites can continue with the existing process and for new users this process will probably be a bit easier as the changes are supposed to be made for new verifications only.
Google Webmaster Tools has also said that the software/websites with inbuilt features to verify the file and meta tage may have to upgrade their functions with new methods.
